Multimode Fiber Optic Links

Application Hints:

  1. Generally, the CO (Central Office) interface end of a Fiber Optic Link installation will be located outside of the high voltage area. Fiber Optic Link 5 and 12 Card Shelves are NOT weatherproof and will have to be installed in a weatherproof enclosure.
  2. Single and two card housings ARE weatherproof.
  3. ALL Fiber Optic Link CO Cards CAN BE powered via the copper telco pairs. However, your telco must have power available on ALL pairs.
  4. ALL Fiber Optic Link CO Cards (except 2W POTS) can also be powered via 24-48 VDC connected to auxiliary terminals on the Cards.
  5. ALL Fiber Optic Link SUB Cards (except 2W POTS) are powered via 24-48 VDC connected to auxiliary or PS terminals on the Cards. 2W POTS Cards can by powered via 24 VDC.
  6. ALL Fiber Optic Link single mode or multimode cards will normally be equipped with single mode or multimode ST type FEMALE connectors.
  7. Since the Fiber Optic Link is a high voltage ISOLATION device, use only ALL DIELECTRIC (NO metallic strength members or shields) fiber optic cable.

Order Hints:

Single Mode and Multimode Fiber Optic Cards use different connectors. Connector type, i.e., single mode/multimode must be noted on any order.

  1. Part Numbers : Examine the part number 8806-1234-03.

    The first four digits of the part number (8806) indicate the product line, i.e., Fiber Optic Link.

    The next two digits of the part number indicate whether the card processes analog information (12XX) or digital information (13XX).

    The next two digits indicate the type of card. Thus, XX34 would indicate a 2 Wire (POTS) Card (Extended Distance); XX35 indicates a 4 Wire Data Card (Extended Distance).

    Finally, the last two digits indicate the model number. This is only important to RLH since most models are BACKWARD COMPATIBLE.

    Therefore, the card in the example above is a Fiber Optic Link, analog, 2 Wire (POTS) Card, Model 3 (Extended Distance).

  2. To aid in ordering, CO and SUB Cards for the SAME service are ALWAYS 10 digits apart. Thus, the 2 Wire CO Card (EXT) is part number 8806-1234-03. The part number for the corresponding 2 Wire SUB Card (EXT) is 8806-1244-03. Every service type must have a CO and SUB Card.
  3. Fiber Optic Link UNITS consist of a Fiber Optic Link Card INSTALLED in a Single Fiber Optic Link Housing. The part numbers for CO and SUB UNITS are ALWAYS CONSECUTIVE with the SUB unit having the lower number. Thus, a Fiber Optic Link 2 Wire SUB Unit (Extended Distance) will have the part number 8806-1211-03. While the 2 Wire CO Unit (Extended Distance) will be numbered 806-1212-03.
